Ground Tackle

One of the most important things that sailors should be focused on is their ground tackle. It is the only thing holding the boat in place at anchor. An undersized anchor, or rusting chain can result in disaster. When a storm passes by, you want to know that you are held securely in place. It's always a bit uncomfortable sleeping at anchor, but knowing that the ground tackle is taken care of can help with those sleepless nights. We have a Rocna 25 (we may upgrade to a larger one) and 200 feet of. 5/16th high tensile anchor chain. Some boats use a combination of anchor chain and rope, but we find  having all chain is a better decision. Once the anchor is set, it is the chains job to keep the force on the anchor horizontal. The stronger the boat pulls, the more it digs in. Our existing anchor chain seemed okay, but we took made the decision to replace it for peace of mind.

Approx cost: Anchor: $3000. 200 feet of chain: $1700
