Alright! Today was such a beautiful day.
It was a little chilly, -8C or so.
When the sun came out, it was beautiful. A crisp, Canadian slap in the face. The last time we tried to fit our mock-up washing machine, it was a little bit big. Ben made an amazing mock up, but didn't realize that the front of the washing machine has a curve. It curves left right, as well as up down.
The sides are 2 inches shorter than the front. You can see in the picture that it sort of curves out so there is access to the control panel. So, we shaved off 2 inches from the depth, and made a curved shape on the front.
After some initial, "darn it won't fit" feelings, we made some adjustments and boom, it fit! It definitely has to go in a certain way, angled like below, but it fits and we are so excited. It was such a great feeling.
The next step for our washing machine saga is to come up with the best way to mount it in the opening. We're thinking of making a platform that it can rest on, and then secure it on all four sides. We want to make sure that it won't go anywhere, even in the worst weather. We are also going to add some teak around the edges, so it doesn't look so out of place. Stay tuned for more updates on this adventure. It's our biggest, most complex project, but we really feel like it will be all worth it in the end.
